Why Smudge?

Smudging is an ancient practiced used for spiritual or/and ceremonial purposes and may vary depending on cultural and religious beliefs. Sage smudging, is the act of burning dried sage and using the smoke to cleanse a space. Sage can be used for many intentions such as purify and blessing a home, making it a sacred space. Sage can also be used to clear negative or stagnant energy from a space. The smoke is thought to absorb and carry away any bad or lingering energy, creating a more harmonious and balanced environment. Always be respectful and mindful of the traditions associated with sage used in different cultures and communities.

Steps to Smudging:

1. Select a dried sage bundle.

2. Choose a fireproof container: Use an abalone shell, ceramic dish, or any other fireproof container to catch the ashes and embers from the burning sage.

3. Prepare the space: Before starting, ensure that the space you want to cleanse is well-ventilated by opening windows and doors after smudging. This allows the smoke and negative energies to exit the area.

4. Light the sage bundle: Hold the sage bundle by the end of the stem and use a lighter or a matchstick to ignite the tip of the bundle. Let it burn for a few seconds and then gently blow out the flame, allowing the sage to smolder and produce smoke.

5. Set your intention: While smudging, it's essential to set a positive intention for the cleansing process. You may say a prayer, affirmation, or focus on visualizing the removal of negative energy and the infusion of positive energy.

6. Begin smudging: Start at the main entrance of the room or space you want to cleanse and walk in a clockwise direction. Wave the smoking sage bundle around in the air, allowing the smoke to waft through the space.

7. Extinguish the sage bundle: Once you have smudged the entire space, return to where you started and carefully extinguish the smoldering sage bundle by pressing it gently against the fireproof container until the smoke stops.
